Absences
If your son or daughter is going to be absent from school, please contact the school by 8.30am and leave your child’s name and the reason for the absence. Phone the school office on 318 8436 or text the school cell 021 0220 3710.
Our teachers complete their class roll at 8.30am and if we have not heard from you we will call and check in with you shortly after 8.30am.
If an absence is anticipated, we appreciate being advised ahead of time. Please contact the classroom teacher or principal in cases where there are discrete reasons for absence.
Attendance
You will be aware of the drive by the government to increase school attendance for all ākonga across the nation. You would have noticed your tamaiti’s attendance rate (%) included in their 2025 end-of-year report and wondered how their attendance is impacting their learning.
Attendance has a direct correlation to learning. The higher the attendance rate the greater the exposure to learning and connection, and improvement in one’s learning progression. Some tamariki have low attendance rates due to multiple variables, some beyond their control. We would like to see an improvement across our school in daily attendance (including those who are late to school by 10mins). In 2025, Greendale Schools daily attendance rates ranged between 85% – 90% based on P: present, J: justified – explained and approved, M: illness medical absence.
The below MoE information may help you understand the attendance codes used and what occurs if a great deal of learning days are missed over the year’s total of 193 days. The expectation is 90% or more daily attendance per term.
